Cliffs of Mount Kedumim

Mount Precipice also known as Mount of Precipitation, Mount of the Leap of the Lord and Mount Kedumim is located south of Nazareth,near the city of Nof Galil on the cliffs of Mount Kedumim. Mount Kedumim received its name from a cave found there – hence the name Kdumim which means “ancient” in Hebrew.

Tourist Area

According to Christian tradition Mount Precipice is the place where the people of Nazareth attempted to hurl Jesus into the abyss below because of he declared himself as the Messiah in a sermon. At the last moment he managed to leap off the mountain and disappear.

Mount Precipice has been developed into a tourist area, and in addition to being a holy site, it provides a spectacular observation point which overlooks Jordan and the Gilad Mountains in the east, Mount Tabor, Mount Carmel and Haifa in the west.

Qafzeh Cave

Archaeological site: the Cave of the leap (Qafzeh cave) is a worldwide importance site which was discovered in the 1970s. Archaeological excavations in the cave found thirteen human remains whose dating back 10,000 years. The skeletons were found with red ochre alongside the bones. In the site also were found pottery and other findings indicate that the place was used for residence as well as for burial.

112 years ago the the mountain was used as a quarry. Now it`s abandoned. Today it use as a highway which goes through a tunnel dug in the mountain in the site of the old quarry, connecting Afula and Israel Valley directly to Nazareth Illit.
